An unhurried vet visit, right at your kitchen table.
Dr. Jake Rodgers, DVM comes to your home for behavior consultations, gentle at-home euthanasia, and wellness visits — for dogs, cats, and exotic pets across Northern Colorado.
A vet who takes the time to listen.
I'm Jake Rodgers, DVM — a Colorado-licensed veterinarian with years of experience in small animal general practice and urgent care. I started Rodgers Veterinary Care because I think pets — and their people — deserve appointments that don't feel like a conveyor belt.
When I come to your home there's no waiting room, no anxious car ride, no clock counting down. We talk through what's going on, I do a thorough exam, and you leave with a plan in plain language. If there's something I can't handle at home, I'll tell you honestly and point you to the right specialist.
Three steps. No waiting room.

Kind words from real clients.
Dr. Rodgers has to be one of the kindest veterinarians I've ever come across as a pet owner. He took his time and was extremely gentle with both my dog and myself. In a scary time he was a comforting presence and made both of us feel safe in his care. I'd be thrilled to have him as my primary vet. What an amazing doctor.Shelby Nielsen ★★★★★ · Google Review
We took our dog late tonight and were seen by Dr. Jake Rodgers. He was incredibly empathetic, patient, thorough, and understanding. Vets like him make difficult moments easier to navigate, and his kindness made a hugely positive impact on the entire experience. Our animals are lucky to have people like you out there!April ★★★★★ · Google Review
Dr. Jake made sure his approach to Goose was gentle and calm, and not the slightest bit upsetting. We went over the situation, came up with a treatment plan, and now Goose is back to his normal self again. The staff took it in stride and accommodated his temperament. Excellent care — thanks again for your patience.Kristin Mauchley ★★★★★ · Google Review
Dr. Jake and the entire staff were amazing. They got her back right away and got her stable then repaired her leg. Thank you all so much for the kindness, care and empathy during a horrific day.Rebekah Sellers ★★★★★ · Google Review · Local Guide
Good to know before you book.
What animals do you see?
Dogs, cats, and exotic pets. I have specialized training in exotic animal medicine and see small mammals (rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets), birds, reptiles, and other exotic species. Exotic patients are especially welcome for behavior consults, nutrition appointments, and end-of-life care — areas where a calm home visit is often far better than a clinic. Reach out before booking if you're unsure whether I'm the right fit for your animal.
How long does a visit take?
Most in-home visits run 45 to 60 minutes. That includes a full physical exam, time to talk through what I find, and any treatments or vaccines your pet needs that day. Hospice and end-of-life appointments are untimed — we go at your pace.
What do you bring with you?
I carry a mobile exam kit — stethoscope, thermometer, otoscope, vaccines, common medications, and supplies for bloodwork and basic diagnostics. Samples go to a lab and results usually come back in 24 to 48 hours. For anything that needs X-rays, surgery, or hospital-level care, I'll refer you to a trusted local clinic.
Can you do telemedicine visits?
Yes — once we've met in person. Colorado law requires an in-person exam to establish the veterinarian-client-patient relationship (VCPR) before any telemedicine or remote prescribing. After that first visit, virtual follow-ups are a great option for quick questions and recheck conversations.
How much do visits cost?
The in-home visit fee is $300 — this covers Dr. Rodgers' time at your home, the physical exam, and a written care plan. It applies to wellness visits, behavior & nutrition consults, and at-home euthanasia. Vaccines, parasite prevention, bloodwork, and medications are billed at cost based on what your pet actually needs that day. Cremation is arranged separately for euthanasia visits (see below). Telemedicine follow-ups for established clients are $75. I accept credit cards, cash, and CareCredit.
What does cremation cost?
Cremation is handled by Precious Memories Pet Cemetery & Crematory in Fort Collins — a private, family-owned facility I trust. All cremations are private: your pet is cremated individually and ashes returned to you (except General Disposal). Prices below include a $15 transport and coordination fee.
Standard — Cloud Box (biodegradable box, ashes returned)
25 lbs & under: $135 · 26–50 lbs: $155 · 51–75 lbs: $175 · 76–100 lbs: $195 · 101–125 lbs: $215
Premium — Cedar Wood or Aluminum Urn (cedar urns can be custom engraved for +$30/line)
25 lbs & under: $165 · 26–50 lbs: $185 · 51–75 lbs: $205 · 76–100 lbs: $225 · 101–125 lbs: $245
General Disposal (ashes not returned — respectfully scattered at Precious Memories cemetery)
$1/lb, minimum $65
Paw prints (clay or ink), hair clippings, and nose prints are also available as add-ons. Just let me know at the time of the visit.
Do you take pet insurance?
I don't bill insurance directly, but I'll provide a detailed invoice with everything your insurance company needs for reimbursement.
What if my pet needs something you can't do at home?
I'll tell you honestly and help coordinate the referral. Some things — complex imaging, surgery, hospitalized care — are better handled at a clinic, and I'd rather get your pet to the right place than stretch what a mobile visit can do.
What should I do in an emergency?
Please don't wait for an appointment. Go straight to the nearest 24-hour emergency veterinary hospital. In Northern Colorado, that's usually CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Fort Collins or your closest local ER vet. Call ahead if you can.
